Photo by @stephenwilkes: Over 270 million cluster bomblets were dropped on Laos by the U.S. during the Vietnam War. More than 80 million never exploded, peppering the country with danger. Here, an unexploded piece of ordnance is detonated in a controlled blast by members of the Lao UXO. The Lao UXO has been active since 1994 and is funded by the USA, the EU, UK, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, and Japan. The 160 person team has successfully cleared over 11,300 acres of land since 1994. I will be sharing more on this story of the resilience of the Lao people here, and on @natgeo.
